Root Canals in Corbin, KY
A root canal is a highly effective procedure used to treat and save a tooth that has been severely damaged or infected. Instead of removing the tooth, the inflamed or infected pulp is carefully cleaned, the tooth’s interior is disinfected and the space is sealed to prevent future issues. This treatment relieves pain and preserves your natural tooth structure, helping you maintain proper function and avoid more extensive dental work in the future. Root canals are a safe, common solution for restoring oral health and comfort.

Process
Examination & Diagnosis: Your dentist will begin with an exam and X-rays to determine the extent of the infection or damage and confirm that a root canal is the best course of action.
Local Anesthesia: Local anesthesia numbs the area around the affected tooth to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Sedation is also available.
Access Opening: A small opening is made on the top of the tooth to access the infected or inflamed pulp inside.
Pulp Removal: The infected pulp, nerves and any debris are carefully removed from the tooth’s canals using specialized instruments.
Cleaning & Shaping: The inside of the root canals is cleaned, disinfected and shaped to prepare for filling. This step ensures that all bacteria are removed and that the space is ready to be sealed.

Next Steps
Canal Filling: The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material, typically gutta-percha, and sealed to prevent future infection.
Temporary or Permanent Seal: A temporary filling is placed on top of the tooth if a crown will be added later. In some cases, a permanent filling or crown may be placed during the same visit.
Restoration: Most root canal-treated teeth need a crown to restore full function and strength. Your dentist will place a custom crown.
